Clear PVC sheet for vacuum forming is a transparent rigid PVC stock formulated to thermoform cleanly into trays, covers, enclosures, and display shells while preserving optical clarity in the finished part. It is used by packaging converters, display fabricators, and OEM producers who need to see through the formed part - whether the contents of a package, a protected component underneath a cover, or the product sitting inside a display shell.
This page is specifically about the clear vacuum-forming variant of PVC sheet. If you need general clear rigid PVC sheet for fabrication, machine guards, or signage (not forming), see our main PVC clear sheet page. If you need opaque or standard-color PVC sheet for vacuum forming, see our PVC sheet for vacuum forming page.
ONE PLASTIC manufactures clear PVC vacuum-forming sheet in thicknesses from 0.15mm to 3mm, in both roll and cut-sheet formats, for packaging and display converters worldwide.
Clear PVC vacuum-forming sheet is produced from rigid PVC compound with three characteristics that distinguish it from general rigid PVC:
Optical Clarity: The sheet is produced with a clear, transparent appearance - typically with light transmittance above 85% and low haze - so that formed parts remain visually see-through.
Thermoforming-Grade Formulation: The PVC compound is formulated with the right balance of plasticizer, stabilizer, and additives to soften cleanly during heating, form without excessive stress-whitening, and hold its shape after cooling. General rigid PVC is often too stiff or too brittle to form well at standard vacuum-forming temperatures.
Controlled Surface and Thickness: Vacuum forming requires flat, dimensionally consistent stock. Variations in surface or thickness cause uneven heating and inconsistent wall thickness in the finished part. This grade is produced to tighter flatness and thickness tolerance than general PVC sheet.
The result is a sheet that vacuum-forms into rigid, transparent parts on standard forming equipment - without losing clarity through the forming cycle.
Clear is one of several material choices for vacuum forming. Buyers choose clear PVC specifically when transparency is a functional or commercial requirement:
Product Visibility in Packaging: Blister packs, clamshell packaging, and product trays where the consumer needs to see the product through the package before purchase. Transparent forming is the entire selling mechanism for the package.
Contents Inspection in Protective Covers: Covers and shells where the user needs to confirm the status of the item underneath without removing the cover - equipment covers, component protective shells, and inspection windows.
Brand and Display Presentation: Retail display shells, product showcase covers, and museum-style display enclosures where the product inside is the visual focus and the cover must stay invisible.
Cost-Effective vs Other Transparent Plastics: Compared with clear PETG, APET, or polycarbonate, clear PVC is typically lower-cost for vacuum-forming applications. For buyers who need transparency plus forming performance but do not need PETG's impact resistance or PC's toughness, clear PVC is often the most cost-effective option.
Better Forming Performance Than Clear Acrylic: Acrylic is clearer than PVC but is much harder to vacuum-form at standard thicknesses. For formed clear parts, PVC is the more practical material.

Hinged clamshell containers and blister trays for consumer products, hardware, electronics accessories, and toys. The clear PVC allows the product to be visible through the package while the formed shape protects it during shipping and retail display.
Equipment covers, dust covers, component shells, and protective lids for industrial and consumer products. Transparency lets the user see the condition or status of the item underneath without opening the cover.
Retail product display covers, tabletop museum-style shells, and exhibition display enclosures. Clear PVC forms into rigid, lightweight shells that hold their shape over time and keep the displayed product visible and dust-protected.
Clear trays for cosmetics, jewelry, small electronics, and high-value retail items where the consumer needs to see the product through the package. Clear PVC trays are also used as custom-formed inserts for gift boxes and premium packaging.
Transparent formed packaging for medical accessories, disposable devices, and kit components where the contents need to be inspected or identified without opening the package.
Vacuum-forming applications cover a wide range of wall thicknesses, so clear PVC is supplied across a broad thickness range. General guidance:
| Thickness | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| 0.15 - 0.30mm | Light blister packs, thin retail packaging, slip covers |
| 0.30 - 0.50mm | Standard clamshells, light product trays, small formed covers |
| 0.50 - 1.0mm | Heavier trays, display shells, medium-duty formed covers |
| 1.0 - 2.0mm | Rigid display shells, protective covers, structural formed parts |
| 2.0 - 3.0mm | Large formed covers, heavy-duty industrial display shells, deep-draw parts |
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Material | Rigid PVC, clear, thermoforming grade |
| Thickness | 0.15mm - 3.0mm |
| Light Transmittance | Typically 85% or higher |

Buyers often confuse three related material choices. Here is how they differ:
| Factor | Clear PVC for Vacuum Forming | General Clear PVC Sheet | Clear PETG for Forming | Clear APET for Forming |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Optical Clarity | High | High | Very high | Very high |
| Formability | Good - tailored for vacuum forming | Variable - not specifically formulated for forming | Excellent - wide forming window | Good - narrower forming window than PETG |
| Impact Resistance | Moderate | Moderate | High | Moderate (can be brittle on deep draw) |
| Cost | Lower | Lower | Higher | Moderate |
| Typical Use | Packaging trays, covers, display shells | Machine guards, signage, fabrication | Impact-critical packaging, deep draws | Food trays, clamshells, standard packaging |
| This Page's Focus | Yes | No (see PVC clear sheet page) | No (see PETG sheet page) | No (see APET sheet page) |
Quick decision guide:
If transparency + forming + cost efficiency is the priority, clear PVC for vacuum forming is the right choice
If you need a clear sheet but will not vacuum-form it (fabrication, cutting, mounting), general PVC clear sheet is the right fit
If the formed part needs high impact resistance or deep draws, see PETG sheet
If the formed part is for food-contact packaging, see APET sheet

Thermoforming-Grade Formulation: Our clear PVC vacuum-forming sheet is produced with a formulation tuned for forming - not general rigid PVC relabeled as forming-grade. This matters for buyers who have been burned by sheets that form poorly or lose clarity during the forming cycle.
Full Thickness Range from One Factory: From thin 0.15mm blister stock to thick 3mm display shell material, we supply from a single factory. This simplifies sourcing when your product line covers multiple formed product types.
Roll or Sheet Format: We supply both continuous roll format for inline vacuum-forming lines and cut sheets for sheet-fed forming operations.
ISO 9001 Certified: Routine batch testing is performed for thickness tolerance, clarity, and surface quality. Test reports are available on request.
Custom Sizes and Specifications: Beyond standard sheet sizes, we produce cut-to-size stock and custom thicknesses within our production range.
No. Both are transparent thermoforming plastics, but they behave differently. Clear PVC is typically lower cost and forms well at standard temperatures. PETG is tougher, more impact-resistant, and has a wider forming window, but costs more. For basic transparent packaging and display applications, clear PVC is the more economical choice. For deep-draw forming or impact-critical parts, PETG is usually better.
Typical forming temperature is around 130-160 C, depending on thickness and your specific forming equipment. Thinner sheets form at the lower end of this range; thicker sheets at the higher end. We recommend running a small trial with your specific forming line before committing to a full production run.
Clear PVC vacuum-forming grade is formulated to minimize stress-whitening and maintain optical clarity through the forming cycle. Some small loss of clarity can occur at very tight corners or deep draws, but for most packaging and display applications, the finished part remains visibly transparent. For the most demanding transparency requirements, PETG may be a better choice.
Yes. Roll format is available for high-volume inline forming lines. Roll widths can be slit to match your forming machine's web width. Core size and roll weight can be specified to match your line setup.
Food-contact suitability depends on the specific PVC formulation and the intended food type. Standard clear vacuum-forming PVC is not typically certified for direct food contact. For food-contact thermoforming, APET or PETG are more commonly specified - see our APET sheet page.
MOQ depends on thickness, width, supply format, and any custom specifications. For standard clear vacuum-forming PVC in common thicknesses, MOQ is typically manageable for mid-size converters. Contact us for a specific quote.
