Inkjet printable PVC sheet is rigid PVC sheet with a surface prepared to accept digital inkjet ink directly - no primer, lamination, or separate print layer required. It is used by card printers, sign makers, display fabricators, and short-run cover producers who need to print full-color graphics on a durable rigid substrate without the setup cost of screen or offset printing.

This is not a broad rigid PVC page. If you need general rigid PVC sheet for fabrication, housings, or industrial use, see our main rigid PVC sheet page. If you need PVC specifically for book or notebook binding covers (an adjacent but different use case), see our PVC binding covers page. This page covers inkjet printable rigid PVC specifically - the substrate chosen when digital print quality and rigid-sheet durability both matter.

ONE PLASTIC manufactures inkjet printable PVC sheet in thicknesses from 0.15mm to 3mm, in white, clear, and colored options, and in standard and custom sheet sizes for printing converters and card producers worldwide.

What Inkjet Printable PVC Sheet Is

Inkjet printable PVC sheet is produced from the same base PVC material as standard rigid PVC, but with two key differences:

Prepared Surface: The sheet surface is either corona-treated, lightly coated, or extruded with a specific surface finish that accepts ink without pooling or beading. Plain PVC has a low-energy surface that causes inkjet inks to bead up rather than spread evenly - printable-grade PVC solves this.

Tight Thickness and Flatness Tolerance: Inkjet printers - especially UV flatbed printers - need consistently flat, dimensionally stable sheets. Warped or uneven stock causes head strikes, misregistration, and print quality problems. Printable PVC is produced to tighter flatness tolerance than general fabrication PVC.

The result is a rigid sheet that prints cleanly on UV flatbed inkjet printers, latex inkjet systems, and solvent/eco-solvent printers, delivering sharp color, accurate registration, and strong ink adhesion without primer or post-coating.

Common Uses in Cards, Covers, Signs, and Displays

Printable Cards

ID cards, membership cards, loyalty cards, access badges, and promotional cards. Inkjet printable PVC is the standard substrate for on-demand card printing, short-run card jobs, and variable-data card production where each card carries different information.

Short-Run Signs and Graphics

In-store signage, event graphics, trade show panels, and promotional signs where the print run is too small for screen or offset printing. UV inkjet flatbed printers can produce full-color signs directly on printable PVC with no plates or screens.

Book, Menu, and Catalog Covers

Printed covers for menus, catalogs, price lists, and short-run book products. Printable PVC is more durable than coated paper covers and stays flat under repeated use. For standard binding cover applications where print is not required, see our PVC binding covers page instead.

Display and Retail Panels

Point-of-sale panels, retail display backgrounds, exhibition graphics, and presentation boards. Rigid PVC at 2-3mm thickness provides enough stiffness for self-supporting panels while still accepting print directly.

Prototypes and Mockups

Designers and brand packaging teams use printable PVC for presentation mockups, packaging prototypes, and proof-of-concept panels that need a professional printed finish.

PVC SHEET FOR CARDS

Inkjet Printing vs Screen Printing vs Offset Printing

PVC sheet is used with all three printing processes, but each one requires a different surface preparation. Buyers often confuse the three, so this distinction matters:

Factor Inkjet Printable PVC Screen Printing PVC Offset Printing PVC
Print Method Digital (UV flatbed, latex, eco-solvent) Screen/silk-screen with plastisol or UV screen inks Offset press with oil-based or UV inks
Surface Prep Corona-treated or lightly coated for inkjet ink Surface prepared for heavier screen-ink adhesion Surface prepared for offset ink transfer and drying
Run Size Short runs, on-demand, variable data Medium runs with repeat artwork Long runs with fixed artwork
Setup Cost Low - no plates or screens Moderate - screen preparation required High - plates and press setup
Typical Use Cards, short-run signs, mockups, personalized products Branded signs, repeat product graphics High-volume printed covers, packaging
Color Flexibility Full color per print, any design per job Limited colors per run (one screen per color) Full process color (CMYK)
This Page's Focus Yes - this is the page for inkjet grade See screen printing PVC variant See offset printing PVC variant

If you run UV flatbed, latex, or eco-solvent digital inkjet printers and need a rigid PVC substrate that prints cleanly without primer, this page is the right fit. If your production uses screen or offset printing, the base PVC may be the same material family but with a different surface treatment - contact us to specify the correct print-grade.

Size, Thickness, and Surface Options

Parameter Specification
Material Rigid PVC with inkjet-compatible surface
Thickness 0.15mm, 0.20mm, 0.30mm, 0.50mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 3.0mm
Sheet Size 1220 x 2440 mm (4x8 ft), 915 x 1220 mm (3x4 ft), A4, A3, or custom
Surface Finish Matte (standard - best for inkjet ink absorption); glossy and silk available
Color White (standard), clear, black, and custom colors
Opacity Opaque (standard for card and sign applications); clear and tinted available
Flatness Tight flatness tolerance for flatbed printer feed
Surface Treatment Corona treatment or compatible coating applied at manufacture
Printer Compatibility UV flatbed, latex, eco-solvent, solvent (confirm with ink manufacturer for specific systems)

Thickness selection guidance:

  • 0.15-0.30mm: Card stock, thin inserts, laminated card assemblies

  • 0.30-0.50mm: Standard card thickness (ISO CR80 card is typically 0.76mm laminated from two 0.30mm layers with overlay)

  • 0.50-1.0mm: Menu covers, short-run presentation covers, rigid inserts

  • 1.5-3.0mm: Self-supporting display panels, signs, rigid board-stock substitutes

Printing Recommendations

UV Flatbed Inkjet: The most common printing method used with our inkjet printable PVC. The surface accepts UV inks with strong adhesion when properly cured. No primer is required on standard matte finish. For glossy finishes, test ink adhesion on a sample before committing to a production run.

Latex and Eco-Solvent: Also compatible with our printable PVC. Latex inks in particular bond well to the matte surface. Solvent and eco-solvent inks typically perform well but may require longer dry time before handling.

Pre-Print Handling: Store sheets flat, in their protective film, at room temperature and moderate humidity. Let sheets acclimate to your pressroom environment for 24 hours before printing - especially in climates with large temperature or humidity swings.

Post-Print: Allow UV-printed sheets to cure fully before stacking or laminating. Allow latex or solvent prints to dry fully before handling.

For custom cut-to-size finished sheets ready for your press bed, or for die-cutting of printed cards and signs, see our machining and fabrication service.

Why Choose ONE PLASTIC?

Dedicated Print-Grade PVC Production: We produce inkjet printable PVC with controlled surface treatment and tight flatness tolerance - not generic rigid PVC relabeled as printable. This matters when your print quality depends on consistent ink adhesion and head clearance.

Full Thickness Range: From thin 0.15mm card stock to thick 3mm display panel material, we supply from a single factory. This allows card producers, sign makers, and display fabricators to standardize on one supplier across their full thickness range.

Custom Sizes and Cut-to-Size: Beyond standard 4x8 ft and A-series sheets, we can supply custom dimensions cut to match your printer's bed size. This eliminates trimming waste in your pressroom.

ISO 9001 Certified: Routine batch testing is performed for thickness tolerance, flatness, surface quality, and ink adhesion. Test samples and reports are available on request before bulk orders.

Factory-Direct Pricing: As a rigid PVC manufacturer with dedicated extrusion lines, we offer competitive pricing for both container-load orders and smaller custom quantities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need primer before inkjet printing on this sheet?

For most UV and latex inkjet systems printing on our standard matte-finish inkjet printable PVC, primer is not required. For glossy surfaces or specialty ink systems, we recommend testing ink adhesion on a sample first. If your specific ink system requires primer, the PVC surface is compatible with most commercial ink-adhesion primers.

Can I print full-bleed / edge-to-edge on this sheet?

Yes. The printable surface extends to the edge of the sheet. For full-bleed printing, trim the printed sheet after printing to final size, or print on an oversize sheet and cut down.

How is this different from printable PVC for card lamination?

Card lamination uses thin printable PVC (typically 0.30mm) that is printed, then laminated together with an overlay to form a finished ISO CR80 card. The material specification is similar, but the thickness and intended workflow differ. We supply both thin card-lamination grade and thicker rigid-sheet grade. Tell us your end use and we will recommend the right thickness.

Does this sheet work on my specific inkjet printer?

Our printable PVC is compatible with UV flatbed, latex, eco-solvent, and solvent inkjet systems that print on rigid substrates. Specific printer and ink combinations vary, so we recommend a small sample test before committing to a bulk order. We can supply A4 or A3 sample sheets for printer testing.

What is the difference between clear and white printable PVC?

White is the standard for most printing applications because it provides the brightest color reproduction and the most consistent appearance. Clear is used when the printed sheet will be laminated or applied over a colored backing, or when a transparent overlay effect is desired. We supply both.

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on thickness, sheet size, and color. For standard sizes in common thicknesses (0.30mm, 0.50mm white), MOQ is typically manageable for mid-size print converters. Custom sizes or colors may require higher minimums. Contact us for a specific quote.
