1.5mm PETG plastic sheet is a mid-to-heavy gauge transparent thermoplastic sheet used for applications that require more rigidity and structural strength than thinner packaging-grade PETG, but without the weight and cost of thicker solid panels. At 1.5mm, PETG sheet offers enough stiffness to be self-supporting in display, protective cover, and fabrication applications, while remaining easy to thermoform, CNC-route, bend, and bond.

This thickness sits at the transition point between thin-gauge packaging sheet (typically 0.2mm-0.8mm) and heavy-gauge fabrication sheet (2mm+). Buyers searching specifically for 1.5mm PETG are typically looking for a material that can serve as a rigid panel, protective cover, or thermoformed housing - not a thin packaging film.

ONE Plastic manufactures 1.5mm PETG plastic sheet as part of our broader PETG sheet product range. We supply this thickness in both roll and cut-sheet format to display fabricators, thermoformers, sign makers, and industrial buyers.

  • Material: PETG (glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate)

  • Transparency: High clarity, glossy surface

  • Density: 1.27 g/cm3

  • Standard Roll Width: 300mm - 1400mm

  • Sheet Size: 915 x 1220 mm, 1000 x 2000 mm, or custom

  • Colors: Clear (standard); colored, white, and black available on request

  • Key Properties: Impact resistant, no stress-whitening, thermoformable, printable, chemical resistant

Why Choose 1.5mm PETG?

Different thicknesses serve different purposes. Here is why 1.5mm is the right choice for certain applications.

Self-Supporting Rigidity: At 1.5mm, PETG sheet is stiff enough to hold its shape without a frame or backing in most display and cover applications. Thinner gauges (0.5mm-1.0mm) tend to flex under their own weight at larger panel sizes, while 1.5mm provides a noticeably more solid, stable panel.

Good Balance of Weight and Strength: 1.5mm PETG is substantially lighter than acrylic or polycarbonate panels of the same thickness, while offering better impact resistance than acrylic. This makes it practical for applications where the panel needs to be handled, shipped, or mounted without heavy-duty hardware.

Thermoformable for Structural Parts: 1.5mm is a popular thickness for thermoformed housings, enclosures, covers, and trays that need structural integrity. It forms well on standard vacuum and pressure forming equipment, producing parts with good wall thickness uniformity and sharp detail definition.

CNC-Routable and Fabrication-Friendly: At 1.5mm, PETG routes cleanly on CNC equipment and can be drilled, sawed, and bent (with heat) using standard plastic fabrication tools. Edges can be polished for a finished look.

Impact Resistant Without Shattering: PETG does not shatter on impact - it absorbs energy and flexes rather than cracking. At 1.5mm, this impact resistance is substantial enough for protective covers, machine guards, and safety barriers in light-duty applications.

Applications of 1.5mm PETG Sheet

Display and Point-of-Sale Fabrication

1.5mm PETG is a popular material for fabricated display components:

  • Retail product display stands and shelves

  • Point-of-sale (POS) display housings and trays

  • Exhibition and trade show panel elements

  • Menu holders and information displays

  • Cosmetic and jewelry display cases

The high clarity and impact resistance make it suitable for display pieces that need to showcase products while withstanding handling in retail environments.

Protective Covers and Guards

  • Machine guards and safety shields (light-duty)

  • Equipment covers and enclosures

  • Sneeze guards and protective barriers

  • Instrument panel covers

  • LED light diffuser panels

For applications where the cover or guard will be subject to heavier impacts, consider thicker PETG gauges (2mm+). For our full PETG range, see the PETG sheet category page.

Thermoformed Housings and Parts

1.5mm PETG thermoforms into rigid three-dimensional parts:

  • Electronic device housings and enclosures

  • Medical equipment covers

  • Automotive interior trim components

  • Prototype enclosures and housings

  • Custom thermoformed trays for industrial packaging

Signage and Graphics

  • Printed sign panels with high-clarity substrate

  • Back-lit signage panels

  • Graphic overlays and face plates

  • Printed point-of-purchase displays

The smooth, glossy surface accepts UV printing and screen printing with good adhesion, and the 1.5mm thickness provides enough rigidity for self-supporting sign panels at moderate sizes.

Architectural and Interior

  • Interior glazing and partitions (light-duty)

  • Decorative panels and room dividers

  • Bathroom and shower enclosures (small panels)

  • Furniture components (shelves, door inserts)

For architectural glazing requiring thicker panels, see our broader PETG sheet range including 2mm, 3mm, and thicker options.

Processing 1.5mm PETG Sheet

Thermoforming

Parameter Guideline
Forming Temperature 80-120 deg C
Mold Temperature 40-65 deg C
Pre-drying Recommended: 65 deg C for 2-4 hours (PETG is hygroscopic)
Forming Window Wide - more forgiving than APET
Deep Draw Good at 1.5mm - produces structural parts with consistent wall thickness

Cutting and Fabrication

Method Notes
CNC Routing Good - 1.5mm produces clean, consistent routed edges
Circular Saw Use fine-tooth blades; maintain steady feed rate
Die Cutting Possible for simpler shapes
Scoring and Snapping Not recommended at 1.5mm - use saw or router for clean cuts

Printing

Method Notes
UV Printing Good adhesion on glossy surface
Screen Printing Compatible; vibrant results on clear substrate
Vinyl Lamination Compatible

Bending

1.5mm PETG can be heat-bent using a strip heater or heat gun. The material bends cleanly without stress-whitening at the bend line - unlike acrylic, which can crack, or APET, which can stress-whiten. Allow the bent part to cool fully before releasing to hold its shape.

Bonding

PETG bonds well with solvent cement (specific to PET/PETG), UV-cure adhesive, and cyanoacrylate. For structural display fabrication, solvent cement typically produces the strongest, most optically clear joints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose 1.5mm PETG instead of 1mm or 2mm?

1.5mm is the practical middle ground. At 1mm, PETG is still fairly flexible and typically needs a frame or backing for panel applications. At 2mm, PETG is stiffer and heavier, which is good for structural panels but adds weight, cost, and forming difficulty. 1.5mm provides self-supporting rigidity for most display, cover, and light fabrication applications at a moderate weight and cost point.

Is 1.5mm PETG better than 1.5mm acrylic?

PETG and acrylic each have advantages. PETG is significantly more impact resistant - it does not shatter on impact, while acrylic can crack or break. PETG also bends without stress-whitening. Acrylic offers slightly better optical clarity and scratch resistance. For applications where impact resistance and safety are priorities, PETG is generally the better choice. For applications where surface hardness and scratch resistance matter more, acrylic may be preferred.

Can 1.5mm PETG be thermoformed?

Yes. 1.5mm is a popular thickness for thermoformed structural parts such as housings, enclosures, and trays. It forms well on standard vacuum and pressure forming equipment at 80-120 deg C. Pre-drying is recommended to avoid moisture-related defects.

Can I print directly on 1.5mm PETG?

Yes. The smooth, glossy surface is compatible with UV printing and screen printing. No primer is typically required. The high clarity of clear PETG makes it an effective substrate for back-printed graphics where the print is viewed through the sheet.

Is 1.5mm PETG food safe?

PETG can be produced in food-contact compliant grades. If your application requires food-contact documentation, please specify this when requesting a quote.
