General Properties of PET Sheets

While each PET variant has its own specific characteristics, the PET family as a whole shares several important properties.

High Optical Clarity: PET sheets offer excellent transparency and surface gloss, making them ideal for packaging and display applications where product visibility is important. Light transmission is typically 88-90% for clear grades.

Thermoformability: PET sheets form well on standard vacuum and pressure forming equipment. PETG and GAG offer the widest forming windows, while APET is suitable for standard-depth forming with careful temperature control.

Chemical Resistance: PET resists oils, greases, dilute acids, and many common chemicals. This makes it suitable for food packaging, industrial applications, and environments where contact with cleaning agents is expected.

Mechanical Strength: PET sheets are rigid, tough, and resistant to impact. PETG and GAG offer the highest impact resistance within the PET family, while APET provides good rigidity at lower cost.
