PET film (polyethylene terephthalate film) is a high-performance polyester film made from PET resin through an extrusion and stretching process. It offers excellent mechanical strength, transparency, chemical resistance, and thermal stability, making it widely used in a variety of applications, including packaging, electronics, printing, and industrial applications.
High Tensile Strength
PET film has good ductility and can remain stable whether it is stretched or under stress.
High Transparency
PET film has excellent transparency and is suitable for packaging and display purposes where content needs to be clearly displayed.
Temperature Resistance
PET film can maintain its original shape for a long time in a high temperature environment and will not deform at higher temperatures
Chemical Resistance
PET film has good resistance to a variety of acids, oils and solvents, and can be processed into protective products such as tablecloth covers.
Dimensional Stability
PET film has extremely strong structural properties and can maintain its original shape in most environments. It is a high-quality material for packaging boxes.
Good Barrier Properties
PET film has good moisture and gas barrier properties, which can extend the shelf life of packaged products and is often used as packaging box material.
Extrusion is the first critical process in PET film production, directly impacting the film's fundamental quality and performance. First, PET resin pellets must be thoroughly dried. PET readily absorbs moisture in the air. Excessive moisture content can cause hydrolysis during high-temperature extrusion, leading to molecular chain breakage and reduced mechanical strength and transparency. High-temperature vacuum drying (approximately 150°C) is typically used for several hours to keep the moisture content below 50 ppm. The dried resin enters the extruder through a feeding system, where the screw and heating barrel gradually heat, shear, and mix until it is completely melted into a uniform, high-viscosity melt. Functional additives such as UV stabilizers, flame retardants, or masterbatches can be added as needed during this stage to impart specific film properties. The molten material then passes through precision filters and melt filters to remove impurities, gel particles, and unmelted matter, ensuring a smooth, defect-free film surface. Finally, the filtered melt is evenly extruded into sheets through a flat die (T-die). By precisely controlling the die temperature, pressure, gap, and screw speed, the thickness of the sheet is ensured to be uniform and the surface is smooth, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent biaxial stretching process.
Packaging: Food and beverage packaging, blister packaging, and flexible packaging composites.
Electronics: Insulation materials, flexible circuit boards, and display screen protectors.
Printing and Graphics: Labels, stickers, and graphic media.
Industrial: Release films, solar panel protectors, and protective overlays.
Decorative and Specialty: Glitter films, Christmas decorations, and synthetic paper.
Compared to PVC or PP films, PET film offers:
Higher temperature resistance
Greater tensile strength and durability
More environmentally friendly—PET can be recycled and reused for products such as fibers and containers
Greater dimensional stability during processing and use
