High density PVC foam board is a rigid, closed-cell expanded PVC sheet manufactured with a denser cellular structure than standard PVC foam board. With densities typically ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 g/cm³ (higher densities available on request), high density PVC foam board delivers greater surface hardness, improved screw-holding strength, and higher flexural rigidity — making it a practical substitute for wood and plywood in applications where moisture resistance, dimensional stability, and long-term durability are required.

Unlike standard PVC foam board (typically 0.3–0.5 g/cm³), the higher density formulation produces a smoother, harder surface that accepts paint, laminate, UV printing, and CNC engraving with improved edge quality. The material is waterproof, chemically resistant, flame retardant (self-extinguishing), and recyclable.

ONE Plastic is a leading high density PVC foam board manufacturer in China with over ten years of production and export experience. Our facility operates multiple advanced PVC foam board extrusion lines. We produce high density PVC foam board using 100% virgin PVC resin, ensuring consistent quality, smooth surface finish, and reliable mechanical properties across every batch.

High Density PVC Foam Board Properties

The "high density" designation is the defining characteristic that separates this product from standard expanded PVC. A higher density means a tighter, more uniform closed-cell structure, which directly translates into measurable performance advantages.

Superior Surface Hardness: High density PVC foam board achieves notably higher surface hardness than standard-density alternatives. This produces cleaner CNC routing edges, sharper engraving detail, and better screw retention. For fabricators and sign makers, this means higher-quality finished products with less post-processing.

Improved Screw & Fastener Holding: The denser core provides stronger fastener pull-out strength than standard PVC foam board. This makes high density PVC board suitable for cabinetry, furniture, and structural interior applications where mechanical fastening is required — applications where standard foam board may not perform adequately.

Smooth, Print-Ready Surface: Both sides of the board feature a smooth, matte-white surface that works well with direct UV printing, screen printing, vinyl lamination, and paint application. For most printing and coating processes, no primer or special surface preparation is needed.

Waterproof & Moisture Resistant: The closed-cell structure offers excellent water resistance, making high density PVC foam board highly resistant to rot, mold, mildew, and swelling. This is a significant advantage over wood and MDF in humid environments, wet rooms, and sheltered outdoor applications.

Lightweight Yet Rigid: Despite its enhanced density, high density PVC foam board remains considerably lighter than solid PVC, wood, or plywood of equivalent thickness. This helps reduce shipping costs, simplifies installation, and makes large-format signage and display fabrication more practical.

Chemical & Corrosion Resistant: High density PVC foam board resists acids, alkalis, oils, and most common industrial chemicals. It will not corrode or delaminate under typical chemical exposure — making it suitable for laboratory, industrial, and marine-adjacent applications.

Flame Retardant: The material is self-extinguishing, providing an inherent safety advantage in public spaces, commercial interiors, and exhibition environments. Please confirm specific flame rating requirements with our technical team for your application.

Easy to Fabricate: High density PVC foam board can be sawed, drilled, routed, nailed, screwed, die-cut, bent (with heat), and bonded with standard PVC adhesives. It processes on standard woodworking equipment, making it accessible to any fabrication shop.

Applications of High Density PVC Foam Board

High density PVC foam board serves as a versatile wood and plywood replacement across a wide range of industries. Its combination of rigidity, moisture resistance, and machinability makes it suitable for both indoor and sheltered outdoor applications.

Signage, Display & Advertising

High density PVC foam board is the preferred substrate for professional sign makers and display fabricators:

  • Digital UV direct printing substrates

  • CNC-routed dimensional letters and logos

  • Exhibition booth panels and trade show displays

  • Point-of-sale (POS) displays and retail fixtures

  • Light box panels and backlit signage

  • Screen-printed posters and menu boards

The smooth, hard surface produces cleaner CNC routing edges than standard-density foam board, which tends to produce rougher, more fibrous edges when machined. For more information on PVC materials for signage applications, see our complete PVC foam board product range.

Furniture & Cabinet Manufacturing

For furniture manufacturers seeking a moisture-proof alternative to wood and MDF, high density PVC foam board (0.65+ g/cm³) offers:

  • Kitchen cabinet carcasses and doors

  • Bathroom vanity panels (waterproof — will not swell or delaminate under normal conditions)

  • Wardrobe interior panels and shelving

  • Office furniture partitions and desktops

  • Modular furniture components

The material can be screwed, nailed, and edge-banded using the same tools and processes as wood-based panels, with the added benefit of excellent moisture resistance. Our PVC foam board for door applications demonstrates how high density PVC foam board performs in furniture and building product use cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes high density PVC foam board different from standard PVC foam board?

The key difference is density. Standard PVC foam board typically has a density of 0.3–0.5 g/cm³, while high density PVC foam board starts at around 0.5 g/cm³ and can go higher. This higher density produces a tighter closed-cell structure, which results in greater surface hardness, better screw-holding strength, cleaner CNC machining edges, and improved flexural rigidity. For applications like furniture, cabinetry, and precision signage, the high density version outperforms standard foam board.

Can high density PVC foam board replace wood and plywood?

In many applications, yes. High density PVC foam board (particularly at 0.65+ g/cm³) is widely used as a replacement for wood, plywood, and MDF. It offers comparable screw retention and structural rigidity while providing excellent waterproof performance, zero rot or mold risk, and consistent dimensional stability regardless of humidity. It is also lighter than plywood of equivalent thickness, which helps reduce shipping and installation costs.

Is high density PVC foam board waterproof?

Yes. The closed-cell PVC structure offers excellent water resistance. High density PVC foam board will not swell, warp, delaminate, or grow mold under normal moisture exposure. This makes it well-suited for kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, wet room wall panels, and marine interior applications.

What thicknesses and sizes are available?

We offer thicknesses from 1mm to 30mm. The standard sheet size is 1220 × 2440 mm (4' × 8'). Custom thicknesses, custom sheet sizes, and cut-to-size services are available upon request. Contact our sales team with your specific requirements for a custom quote.

Is high density PVC foam board fire resistant?

High density PVC foam board is self-extinguishing — it does not sustain combustion and will self-extinguish once the flame source is removed. For projects with specific fire rating requirements (such as B1 or other national standards), please contact our technical team to confirm the appropriate grade for your application.

Can high density PVC foam board be printed on?

Yes. The smooth, matte-white surface works well with UV, screen, and digital printing methods. For most applications, no primer is required. The high-density surface generally produces sharper print detail and better edge quality compared to standard-density foam board, which is why professional sign makers often prefer it for high-quality output.
